About the Community Impact Fund
The Community Impact Fund provides financial and additional support to direct service agencies as one strategy to positively change lives in Gallatin, Madison, Meagher and Park Counties.
The fund’s Impact Areas are: Basic Needs, Youth Success, Early Learning and Health and Mental Well-Being.
The Community Impact Fund promotes regional collaboration across these Impact Areas through funding, marketing and outreach, coalition-building, resource-sharing and training. This program is equal parts financial support and relationship-building with our donors and partners.
GGUW is committed to stewarding an accessible, equitable and transparent grant-making process that values and maximizes the time and energy of all those involved to deliver the greatest possible impact.

Impact Areas
- Basic Needs
- Projects and programs working to provide disaster relief, access to community resources, affordable housing and shelter, strengthen food security, and provide transportation.
- Early Learning
- Projects and programs that align with the following goals: all children reading at or above grade level by the end of 3rd grade, all children are ready for kindergarten, all children have access to affordable early learning environments with a focus on children ages 0-5 years, and all children ages 5+ years have access to an affordable, safe and nurturing place during out-of-school time.
- Youth Success
- Projects and programs that provide access to affordable out-of-school care, and provide youth of Greater Gallatin Valley with the tools and resources they need to be successful in life, at work and at home.
We also understand in order to provide holistic safety net for working families their health and well-being are an important foundation for success.
- Health and Mental Well-Being
- The fund also supports projects and programs that make behavioral healthcare more readily available, normalize and increase understanding of behavioral health as a component of whole-person health, teach the signs and symptoms of mental health and illness, and increase the ability of people to get help and reach out.
Priority populations:
- Families and single parents in need of childcare and out-of-school-time care
- People who are low income, experiencing homelessness, and others who are disproportionately economically impacted
- Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC), LGBQT+ youth and adults, people with disabilities, seniors and veterans
- Underserved people and communities, including people in precarious situations
- People struggling with anxiety, depression, suicide, and other mental health challenges
- We are also committed to building relationships with organizations led by and staffed by BIPOC
The following groups are eligible for funding through the Community Impact Fund:
- 501(c)3 organizations
- Service programs affiliated with religious organizations
- Government departments
- Private and public schools
- Foundations
- Civic organizations
Community Impact grant awards may NOT be used for the following:
- Capital campaigns
- To fund loans or debt retirement
- To individuals, unless allocated through a grantee
- To religious organizations for religious purposes
- For sponsorships of one-time events such as galas or fundraising events
- For influencing elections or promoting political candidates
- Programs or organizations that discriminate against any person, including employees, volunteers, clients, subcontractors or others because of race, color, citizenship, religion, creed, political ideas, national origin, sex, age, gender, physical or mental disability, veteran or current or future military status, actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, economic class, or marital status

- Grant Applications Open -- June 1, 2023
- Grant Application Closes -- June 30, 2023, at 11:59 PM Mountain Time
- Grant Evaluation Committee Meetings -- July & August
- Greater Gallatin United Way Board of Directors Vote on Community Impact Awards -- September 1, 2023
- Meet with GGUW Community Engagement Coordinator -- September
- Grant Award Notifications (Award Letter and SOA) -- September 16, 2023
- Fund Distribution – Begins September 2023 -- Payment schedules are provided with Award Letters and SOAs
- Mid-Year Grant Reporting on 2023 Awards -- Due January 31, 2024
- Final Grant Reporting on 2023 Awards -- Due July 31, 2024

We have eliminated the need for a mid-year grant report. The Final Grant Report will be due on July 31, 2024, but can be accessed at any time through the application portal.
GGUW staff, board members and interested community volunteers will review all applications to the Community Impact Fund.
Reviewers are instructed to focus on the content of the grant application rather than the skill with which it was written. Reviewers rank their recommendations for funding based on the applicant's eligibility, the strength of the application within its area of impact, the demonstration of financial need and availability of other private and public fundraising opportunities, and the effectiveness of proposed services reaching the intended client population. We also strive to fund work in all four of the counties we serve Gallatin, Park, Madison and Meagher.
Certified Public Accountants review financials to ensure organizations are in good financial standing and provide recommendations to the staff and board.
