Greater Gallatin United Way and Bozeman Health Announce Transformational Community Partnership

BOZEMAN, MT — September 16— Greater Gallatin United Way (GGUW) and Bozeman Health announced a new partnership that will transform an underutilized Bozeman Health property into a permanent community asset designed to build the capacity of the organizations serving southwest Montana.

Under the agreement, Bozeman Health will sell one of its buildings in Spanish Peaks Plaza near N. 19th and Main St to GGUW below market rate. GGUW plans to establish its permanent regional headquarters at the property and create a shared nonprofit capacity center with affordable offices, meeting and training space, technology, volunteer infrastructure and other shared resources. By reducing duplicated overhead, participating nonprofits are projected to redirect more than $1.8 million over 10 years back into their missions, keeping more local dollars focused on programs, services and jobs.

“Community health extends far beyond the care provided within our walls. It’s shaped by whether families have access to nutritious food, safe housing, childcare and mental health support,” Bozeman Health CEO Dr. Kathryn Bertany said. “From providing safe, enriching out-of-school care through kidsLINK to connecting families with essential resources and investing in local nonpro ts, Greater Gallatin United Way strengthens our community. They act as a convener, direct-service provider and funder to amplify impact. By putting this existing community asset to work in a new way, together we can build a healthier, more resilient community.”

As Gallatin County grows, rising costs and limited affordable space are putting increasing pressure on nonprofits, particularly smaller and emerging organizations. The center will provide space for boards to meet, nonprofit leaders to learn, volunteers to connect with opportunities, organizations to develop programs, and community partners to work together in times of need.

“This is an investment in what makes community impact possible,” said Kimberly Hall, CEO and President of Greater Gallatin United Way. “Our community asks nonpro ts to address increasingly complex challenges, from housing and food security to childcare, mental health and emergency response. The organizations doing that work need the infrastructure, resources, and partnerships that allow them to remain strong and responsive. This building gives us the opportunity to create that foundation together.”

The benefits extend beyond the organizations using the building. Lower operating costs mean more charitable dollars can remain focused on mission, supporting local jobs, preserving essential services and strengthening the local economy.

Greater Gallatin United Way is launching a capital campaign to purchase, renovate and equip the property and is working with nonprofits, businesses, donors and community leaders to help shape the center.

“Proximity creates relationships. Relationships create collaboration. And collaboration creates greater impact,” Hall said. “This building can become the place where an idea  nds a partner, a volunteer  nds a way to help, a new nonpro t  nds its footing and organizations that have been working separately discover what they can accomplish together.”

Currently, the 7,000 sq ft building is largely unbuilt shelled space with a small portion housing Bozeman Health’s North 19th Street Outpatient Lab. Under the agreement, Bozeman Health will continue operating the lab there for up to five years while identifying a future, more suitable, location. There will be no changes for patients or to lab services at the N. 19th Outpatient Lab, and Bozeman Health will provide ample notice before relocating these continuing services in the future.

Additional information about the project, capital campaign and opportunities to participate will be announced in the coming weeks. Visit greatergallatinunitedway.org/nonprofitcenter to learn more and follow the project as it moves forward.
