Community Impact Partner Spotlight– Child Abuse Prevention Month

CASA of Park and Sweet Grass Counties & CASA/GAL of Gallatin County

April marks Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to reflect on the crucial role advocacy plays in the lives of children who face abuse and neglect. At Greater Gallatin United Way, we are honored to spotlight two of our Community Impact Partners that provide vital support to some of the most vulnerable children in our community: CASA of Park and Sweet Grass Counties and CASA/GAL of Gallatin County, Inc. These organizations work tirelessly to ensure children’s voices are heard and that they have the necessary support to thrive.

CASA of Park and Sweet Grass Counties
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Park and Sweet Grass Counties focuses on advocating for abused and neglected children within the foster care system. This organization fills a critical gap in the system, ensuring that children are not only represented in court but that their best interests are put front and center. CASA volunteers undergo training to become the eyes and ears of the court, investigating the abuse or neglect and making recommendations regarding the child’s physical and mental health, education, family visitation, and long-term stability.

Without CASA volunteers, children would only be represented by an attorney advocating for their wishes, which is not always in their best interest. CASA’s work is invaluable—especially since the foster care system, while focused on parents’ rights, often overlooks what is best for the children. CASA steps in to ensure that every child has a voice, advocating for their safety, well-being, and permanent placement in a loving environment.

“We aim to serve and restore children, who will, in turn, become the next generation of our community.” – CASA of Park and Sweet Grass Counties

CASA/GAL of Gallatin County, Inc.
CASA/GAL of Gallatin County plays a vital role in ensuring safe, stable futures for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. Through dedicated advocacy, they help ensure that children remain at the forefront of court discussions, providing a voice for their future. By training new volunteers twice annually, CASA/GAL ensures that every child referred to their program is assigned an advocate who remains solely focused on their best interests.

One of the core challenges CASA/GAL addresses is providing stability for children who experience frequent displacement and trauma. By prioritizing stable placements and supporting older youth transitioning to independence, CASA/GAL aims to reduce the cycle of trauma and improve outcomes for youth aging out of the foster care system. The organization’s “GAP” program offers additional resources and support for older youth, ensuring they are prepared for adulthood with the skills and resources necessary to thrive.

Children in the child welfare system face significant challenges, including higher risks of homelessness, lower graduation rates, substance abuse, and a continued cycle of involvement in the foster care system as parents themselves. CASA/GAL’s advocacy ensures that children’s voices are heard in court, providing them with the stability, support, and resources they need to break this cycle. The focus on reducing trauma, supporting stable placements, and guiding older youth into adulthood creates stronger families and a healthier, more resilient community.

A Call for Support
Both CASA organizations depend on the support of the community—volunteers, donors, and partners—who help them provide essential services for children in need. The mission of CASA in both Park/Sweet Grass and Gallatin counties is to ensure children who face the unimaginable challenges of abuse and neglect have an advocate in their corner, fighting for their future. This work is vital to the long-term health and strength of our community.
