At Greater Gallatin United Way, we are proud to spotlight our Community Impact Partner, Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming (GSMW), an organization dedicated to empowering girls by equipping them with lifelong skills through hands-on programming. Through female-led initiatives, Girl Scouts focuses on key areas such as STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship, creating safe spaces where girls can learn, grow, and develop confidence. The skills gained through Girl Scouts help girls succeed academically and personally, setting them up for a bright future.
One of GSMW’s standout projects is Navigating Enriching Pathways for Girls, which focuses on providing afterschool programs designed to serve girls in Gallatin County, including rural communities. In areas where affordable afterschool care is limited, this partnership ensures that girls, especially those from low-to-moderate-income families, have access to enrichment-based activities that nurture their development. These programs help girls build life skills, gain outdoor confidence, and enhance their education.
Research from the Girl Scout Research Institute shows that participation in Girl Scouts leads to better academic performance, stronger social skills, and increased confidence. To further support their development, girls involved in this program will receive an annual Girl Scout membership, allowing them to continue building on the skills learned during afterschool sessions. This membership provides ongoing access to opportunities such as joining troops, attending summer camps, and engaging in entrepreneurial activities like the iconic Girl Scout cookie program.
The Navigating Enriching Pathways for Girls initiative is designed to create meaningful, positive impacts for girls in underserved communities. Through collaboration with local schools and a commitment to breaking down barriers, GSMW offers girls a chance to thrive in ways that will impact their futures for years to come.
