Why These Programs Matter

Greater Gallatin United Way (GGUW) operates 12 kidsLINK afterschool programs and partners with six additional schools and organizations, serving as a vital lifeline for working families and an essential resource for children. These programs go beyond childcare—they empower families, strengthen the workforce, and support local businesses.

The need for affordable, reliable afterschool care in Gallatin and Park Counties is immense. According to recent studies, over 70% of families in our region rely on all parents in the household being in the workforce, leaving a significant gap in care for children during afterschool hours. With over 60% of children in Gallatin and Park Counties under age 12 needing afterschool programs, the demand far exceeds the available supply—especially in rural and underserved areas.

By providing affordable, reliable care, afterschool programs reduce stress for parents, helping them remain in the workforce and provide stability for their families. These programs also create structured environments where children can grow academically, socially, and emotionally, ensuring every child has the resources to thrive.

The connecting piece for every thriving community is taking care of its children, allowing families to flourish and local economies to remain strong. Afterschool programs are an investment in our community’s future, ensuring that every child and family has the opportunity to succeed.

This work wouldn’t be possible without partnerships and community support. It’s just one more way, united is the way to a thriving community for all.
