Brooke's Journey

Brooke's journey is a testament to the strength and resilience of many parents in our community. Growing up in Montana, she ventured far from home, only to return with her two children, Sam, a lively five-year-old, and Lily, her inquisitive seven-year-old. The transition back home was far from seamless for the family, as they grappled with a new environment and the ensuing challenges, which manifested as struggles in school and behavioral issues.

Like countless parents in our community, Brooke soon discovered the harsh reality of finding quality and affordable child care. With waiting lists stretching into the horizon and monthly bills that strained her budget, she was faced with heart-wrenching decisions that would affect her family's health, financial stability, and her children's well-being.

As a single mother, Brooke was determined to provide for her family, but she couldn't do it without access to quality after-school care for Sam and Lily. She understood the pivotal role that quality child care played in her children's development, and she feared having to compromise their well-being due to cost constraints. Fortunately, both Sam and Lily attended a school in Bozeman where Greater Gallatin United Way offered the kidsLINK Afterschool program.

Brooke decided to apply for tuition assistance to make ends meet. The day she received an email notifying her that not only did kidsLINK have a spot for Lily and Sam, but Greater Gallatin United Way would also cover the costs, she was overwhelmed with gratitude and relief. With this support, she could focus on her new job, and her children could flourish in their new environment.

As the family settled into their routine, the positive changes were evident. Lily and Sam not only found mindfulness workshops and new friends at afterschool but also discovered a newfound passion for science through hands-on experiments. Their behavior improved, and their overall well-being thrived, resulting in happy, healthy children who excelled in school.

Brooke's story mirrors the experiences of many in our community.
